Donald Trump to get own tartan

The American businessman ordered the new Trump tartan following months of controversy over his plans for the Menie Estate.

Three fashion students from Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen have been commissioned to create the new design.

The chosen tartan will then be used to adorn the interior of his 450-bedroom hotel and clubhouse and could also be incorporated into golf wear and merchandise for the 1400-acre resort.

The new design will complement the existing Trump family tartan, MacLeod, after his mother Mary who was born on Lewis, as well as forming part of the Trump International Scotland brand.

Aspiring designer Daniel Crozier, from Aberdeen, said he was "shocked" when they found out they would be creating a tartan for one of the world's most famous businessmen.

Mr Crozier, 21, said: "It's an amazing opportunity to have this on our CV.

"We were told about six weeks ago and it was just a sense of shock and awe.

"We have started looking into what the man and the brand stands for and I am very impressed. I visited Trump Tower during a trip to New York and it really has to be seen to be believed."

Jacqueline Cooper, 21, a fellow student, added: "It's really important in fashion to make connections with people.

"To be able to work with Donald Trump, who is renowned worldwide, is such a bonus. It's invaluable."
