Councillor in Trump row cleared by watchdog

AN ABERDEENSHIRE councillor at the centre of a row over access at tycoon Donald Trump’s Scottish estate has been cleared of any wrongdoing by a public watchdog.

Debra Storr had said that the Trump Organisation was breaching access laws by locking the gates to Menie Estate, in Balmedie.

The Aberdeenshire councillor also claimed the estate staff had unlawfully detained her as she visited constituents.

But the Trump Organisation, which is building a £1 billion golf resort at Menie estate, complained to the Standards Commission that her statements were “false and defamatory”.

However, the watchdog has now dismissed the complaint.
